The 272nd British soldier has now been killed in Afghanistan, in another grisly military operation.
We've had the "War of Jenkins' Ear". This was a particularly stupid war which lasted nine years in the middle of the 18th century, even spilling over into North American disputes between the Spaniards in Florida and the British in Georgia.
"The War of Brown's Glass Eye" has now bumped along for nine matching miserable years. If it lasts one more year, it will finally beat the stupid war of Jenkins' Ear for utter mindless British government stupidity (which is saying something).
We should take a leaf out of the Russian army's book and just get out now, before the 273rd man is killed in this preposterous meat-grinding blood bath. The Soviets knew when they were beaten. Why can't we?
