The Scouring of the Shire

How does Lew Rockwell do it? He seems to read all of the American newspapers and then all of the British papers, before I've even had my first cup of tea in the morning? It's certainly a sterling effort.

Especially when he discovers such excellent articles as this one, in The Sunday Times.

Many parts of Britain, particularly Northern Ireland and the North East of England, are now so dominated by the British state that they have surpassed Soviet levels of state control over the economy.

This is, of course, only set to get worse, as what little is left of our manufacturing base finally collapses due to the taxes, the inflation, and the regulation, of Gordon Brown's communist inheritance.

As Tolkien might have put it, soon in this country there will only be one person working and all the rest of us gathering from him and sharing out his produce.

Welcome to the nightmare Shire of Saruman the Brown.

If four hobbits would like to come through a fictional time vortex to help us clean out this particular version of the Shire, and to help rid us of Gordon's half-orc legions of gatherers and sharers, then now would be a good time to do it.

Apparrently all your peesimistic writings are bollocks Jack. This isn't the end of the Keyunesian economic order as we know it as it folds in on itself. No. Rather, according to Gordon, its "the difficult birth-pangs of a new global order".

So there you are.

Yes I know you ask me to bugger off and set up my own Austrianesque-blog but I have yet to pick up the courage to do that ...

I know it doesn't seem like it but I'm actually a (long-term) optimist.

The international division of labour is the only way we can sustain and create a wealthy enough world in which we can eventually eliminate poverty, and this is only possible under a proper free capitalist system based upon the paramount ethical system of private property rights.

Life, liberty, and property. Just like Thomas Paine wanted Thomas Jefferson to write in the Declaration of Independence, until Jefferson bottled it and put the meaningless "pursuit of happiness" in, instead, which can be made to mean whatever you want it to mean.

The more government we have, the less wealth we have, and the more government collapses in on itself (witness the Soviet Union, North Korea, etc).

Eventually we will slough off the vast parasitical beast of government, once it becomes clear to everyone where all of the problems are coming from.

The only trouble, of course, is that pesky little word, "eventually". It probably won't be in our lifetimes, but we can only try. You never know.

I think we may have reached the end game long run for Keynesianism and they're not going to be able to inflate their way out of it.

They'll try. Obviously.

The next really big thing will be the forthcoming monetary conference to establish a new global currency, once the pound has gone under and we are left with essentially, the Euro, the Yen, and the Dollar.

No matter what they do, however, they won't be able to save the dollar.

And then once the dollar collapses, we could even be looking to an emergency reversion to a gold standard - though I suspect this will be a private gold standard first (e.g. as created by GoldMoney.com), that international traders will use.

Governments will try to pile in on that and try to claim credit for it, and then try to mess with it so they can inflate again, but they'll not be able to manage it.

The future is actually good, once we have got rid of coercion and replaced it with a totally voluntary society. I just think we're going to go through a lot of pain and time to get there first, with all of these uneducated vested interests in the way.

That is why we should all be doing whatever we can to educate others. The real shame of it, is that all of us, including the parasites, will be much better off if we stop trying to leech off each other.
